SAPM Jawad Malik Advocates Pakistani Workforce During Ministerial Roundtable in Riyadh

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Jawad Sohrab Malik represented the voice of the Government of Pakistan at the world’s first Global Labour Market Conference held at the King Abdul Aziz International Convention Centre in Riyadh, by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development Saudi Arabia.

Jawad Sohrab Malik was warmly received and hosted by Saudi Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Ahmad bin Sulaiman Al-Rajhi throughout GLMC, which was attended by more than 6,000 participants and representatives from 40 nations, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis said in a press release.

Addressing labour ministers from 26 nations during the ministerial roundtable conference, SAPM Jawad Sohrab Malik asserted that Pakistan possesses a vast pool of highly skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labour ready to meet the demands and needs of the international job market.

He highlighted the significance for both the participants of the conference and foreign employers to recognize the mutual benefits of engaging the highly competitive Pakistani workforce for work.

SAPM also unveiled strategies adopted to prepare the Pakistani workforce for the future. These strategies include the enhancement of digital literacy, the revitalization of STEM education, and the establishment of public-private partnerships for practical tech exposure. The major target is to increase labour market productivity through regulatory reforms, enhanced labour mobility, and a delicate balance between job preservation and automation.

Moreover, Malik proposed comprehensive social protection steps, including healthcare, pensions, unemployment insurance, career support, and family-oriented services, all geared towards fostering a technologically proficient workforce ready to meet international labour market demands.

Pakistan Key Exporter of Manpower

Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to developing skilled workers and fostering global partnerships in the labour sector. As a key exporter of manpower, especially to Saudi Arabia, SAPM served as a crucial bridge between countries, underlining the Pakistani government’s priority of equipping its workforce with the skills demanded by the evolving international labour market, the press release added.

During the conference, Malik actively participated in important sessions of knowledge-sharing plenary discussions and focused breakout debates with speakers from around the world. These sessions discussed various topics, from navigating automation to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

In his talk with reporters, SAPM appreciated Saudi Arabia for leading efforts to improve global job markets to adapt to constant changes. He underlined the evolving nature of today’s job market, stressing the need for new skills for future jobs and the emergence of new professions.
