RIYADH: A charitable fundraising campaign initiated by Saudi Arabia has successfully collected over SR619 million ($165 million) for the benefit of the people of Gaza. Launched on November 2, 2023, by the Kingdom’s aid agency KSrelief through the Sahem platform, the initiative was undertaken as per the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

As of Monday, the Sahem platform, designed for charitable donations, reported that more than 1.6 million individuals had accessed it to contribute to the noble cause. The ease of accessibility has allowed generous donors to participate by downloading the Sahem app from Apple’s App Store or Google Play, visiting sahem.ksrelief.org, or transferring funds directly into the dedicated Al-Rajhi Bank account (SA5580000504608018899998).

The significant success of the campaign reflects the solidarity and commitment of the Saudi people towards alleviating the challenges faced by the Gaza population.

Meanwhile, Osama Nugali, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Egypt, held a meeting with Alfonso Verdu Perez, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Egypt. Their discussions revolved around the ongoing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Red Cross, with a particular focus on medical assistance provided to those in need in the Gaza Strip.

Last November, KSrelief had signed a cooperation agreement worth SR37.5 million ($10 million) in Cairo with the International Committee of the Red Cross, aiming to support Palestinians in Gaza. The collaboration emphasizes bolstering hospitals, deploying medical staff, and addressing the needs of the wounded, particularly those with burns.
