ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has agreed on over $48.8 million worth of projects to help Turkiye and Syria after this month’s deadly earthquakes, Saudi Arabia’s state TV Al-Ekhbariya reported on Monday.

The earthquakes in southern Turkiye and NW Syria left more than 46,000 people dead.

Projects to aid women affected by earthquake

According to a statement by the UN sexual and reproductive health agency (UNFPA) on the weekend, among the survivors of the quakes in Turkiye and Syria there are around 356,000 pregnant women who desperately need access to reproductive health services.

The women include 130,000 in Syria and 226,000, about as many as 38,800 of whom are expected to deliver in the next month.

The UNFPA added that many of the women are sheltering in camps, others are living exposed to freezing temperatures, and many are struggling to get food or clean water.
