RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Barbados have signed an air transportation agreement to regulate frameworks for safe air travel, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.
Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser and Barbados Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerrie Symmonds signed the agreement on behalf of their governments.
The agreement was signed under 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known as the Chicago Convention, which regulates international civil aviation according to the principle of fair and equal opportunities.
The agreement would establish regulatory frameworks for safe air transport between the two countries in accordance with Chicago Convention principles.
The deal would help Saudi Arabia and Barbados to regulate granting of air transport rights and implement standards for nominating and licensing of international operating airlines.

The agreement is expected to enhance aviation safety and civil aviation security between the two countries, promote healthy competition, and protect the joint economic interests of national airlines.
It would also boost the national carriers’ active and continuous participation in serving the air transport market between Saudi Arabia and Barbados.
The agreement is aimed at building international collaboration and signing new bilateral deal that support the strategy’s ambitious goals.

The deal also aims to enhance Saudi Arabia’s air connectivity to 250 destinations across the world making it a global hub, and to annually transport 330 million passengers by 2030.
