Saudi Arabia Border Guards Foil Attempt to Smuggle 130kg of Qat

RIYADH: In a recent operation, Saudi Arabia’s vigilant border guards in the Jazan region successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a substantial 130 kilograms of the narcotic qat into the Kingdom.

This significant interception was reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday.

Simultaneously, law enforcement agents from the General Directorate of Narcotics Control apprehended two Saudi nationals in Jazan. The individuals were taken into custody for their involvement in attempting to sell illicit substances, including hashish, methamphetamine, and pharmaceutical pills that are subject to strict medical regulations.

Both suspects have been referred to the Kingdom’s Public Prosecution authority, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s commitment to combat narcotics trafficking and ensure the safety and security of its borders and citizens.
