RIYADH: The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced the beginning of the Orange Line of the Riyadh Metro project on Sunday marking the operationalisation of the world’s longest driverless multi-billion dollar project.
With the start of the Orange Line, all six lines of the Riyadh Metro will be operational, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The Orange Line stretches 41 kilometres from east to west, with stations running from Jeddah Road to the Second Eastern Ring Road, parallel to Khashm Al Aan in the east.
The launch of the Orange Line signifies the completion of the phased rollout of all six lines in the Riyadh Metro network, announced at the project’s inauguration.
The metro system was inaugurated by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on November 27. The public transport project was launched based on various studies prepared by the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh.

The operationalisation of all six lines of the Riyadh Metro network will enhance connectivity across the capital and ease travel for both residents and visitors. The network’s operating hours are from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
Passengers can identify destinations and purchase tickets using the “Darb” mobile application or ticket offices and self-service machines at the Riyadh Metro stations.
More information can be obtained through calling the unified call centre for public transport on the number 19933, or visit the Riyadh Public Transport website (www.rpt.sa), or the official accounts on social media networks.
The Riyadh Metro is the largest in the Middle East and the longest driverless metro system globally would offer alternative transportation options to reduce dependence on personal vehicles and facilitate Riyadh’s evolution into a centre for trade and commerce.
