RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has condemned an Israeli map that claimed Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese territories as part of Israel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said the map inaccurately depicts parts of Arab countries, including Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, as being within its alleged borders.

“The Kingdom asserted that such extremist claims reflect the occupation authorities’ intent to entrench their occupation, continue blatant assaults on the sovereignty of states, and violate international laws and norms,” the statement said.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its call for the global community to assume its responsibility in stopping Israeli violations against the region’s countries and peoples.

The ministry stressed the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states to prevent the escalation of regional crises and the undermining of efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Meanwhile the Arab Parliament and Arab League have strongly condemned Israel’s publication of maps.

Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohammed Al Yamahi in a statement on Wednesday said these maps purportedly depict Palestinian and Arab lands, coinciding with provocative statements by the Israeli finance minister advocating for the annexation of the West Bank and the establishment of settlements in the Gaza Strip.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit in a statement strongly condemned Israel’s publication of maps claiming Arab territories.

In a statement, Aboul Gheit described the act as deliberate and alarming. He emphasised that it reflects the Israeli government’s deep entrenchment in right-wing extremism and religious fanaticism, and criticized the promotion of “historical myths” as facts.

Palestine and Jordan also condemned the map on Tuesday.
