RIYADH: Saudi  Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah has received a phone call from the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.

According to the foreign ministry statement on Friday, they discussed regional and international developments and ongoing efforts related to these issues.

In another development, the European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have welcomed the Saudi-hosted US-Ukraine talks, including the proposal for a ceasefire agreement and the resumption of US intelligence sharing and security assistance.

“This is a positive development that can be a step towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine,” both EU leaders said in their posts on X. “The ball is now in Russia’s court.”

It is pertinent to mention that trade volume between Saudi Arabia and Europe reached approximately $52 billion by mid-2024.

In December last year, a trade meeting between Saudi Arabia and the European Union was held in Riyadh to discuss trade regulations, customs systems, market access, knowledge exchange, enhancing trade and investment, and addressing trade barriers.
