ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has stepped forward to aid the distressed residents of Gwadar, announcing relief measures in response to the devastating impact of torrential rains on the port city.
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Pakistan, along with National Disaster Management Authority teamed together to aid the people in distress.
Amidst the aftermath of destructive rainfall, Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al Maliky visited Balochistan to convey Saudi Arabia’s support to the affected populace of Gwadar.
Expressing solidarity with Pakistan, the ambassador pledged assistance by allocating 9,000 shelter camps and 9,000 ration bags to alleviate the hardships faced by those grappling with the calamity.
In a gesture of appreciation, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti extended gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its timely and substantial relief efforts. Bugti highlighted the immense challenges posed by climate change and emphasized the urgent need for concerted rehabilitation endeavors to aid the affected communities in Gwadar.
The extensive damage inflicted by the torrential downpours prompted the declaration of Gwadar as a calamity-hit area, prompting urgent action from both local and national authorities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally visited the affected areas, emphasizing the government’s commitment to swiftly address the crisis and facilitate relief operations.
Responding to the urgent humanitarian need, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Pakistan, orchestrated an emergency relief convoy. Comprising five containers laden with essential supplies, including 9,000 food packages and 9,000 shelters, the convoy aimed to provide immediate assistance to flood victims in Gwadar.
Seamless coordination between the NDMA and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan ensured the efficient distribution of relief items to the affected communities. The consignment, dispatched from Islamabad to Gwadar, was overseen by local authorities tasked with ensuring the equitable distribution of aid to those most in need.
