RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) ICT Development Index (IDI) for 2023, securing the 2nd position among G20 countries. The jump of 10 ranks underscores the Kingdom’s robust information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and its commitment to digital development.
The ITU assesses the progress of 169 economies, focusing on two main pillars: ‘universal connectivity’ and ‘meaningful connectivity.’ This evaluation considers factors such as the provision of high-quality infrastructure and ensuring a safe and secure internet for all. Saudi Arabia’s notable improvement in the IDI is attributed to its affordable and reliable ICT services, directly contributing to the growth of the national digital economy.
Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Enhancing ICT Infrastructure and Services
The Kingdom’s achievements underscore its attractiveness for investment and contribute to the expansion of the Saudi ICT market. The index also highlights Saudi Arabia’s dedication to enhancing its ICT infrastructure and services, fostering economic growth, and creating opportunities. Notably, the Saudi ICT market stands as the largest and fastest-growing in the MENA region, showcasing the nation’s commitment to digital transformation.
The IDI reveals the strength of Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure, with a notable 99 percent increase in internet penetration rate. This progress aligns with the goals of Vision 2030, as the Kingdom invested over SR93 billion in total capital over the past six years to achieve international leadership in digital growth. This substantial investment has positioned Saudi Arabia prominently in global indicators.
