RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the Syrian people and their aspirations for the security and stability of their homeland after Bashar al-Assad fled Damascus in the face of a lightning offensive led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

The Saudi cabinet in a session chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on Syrian territory and their violations of international law, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

After the cabinet session, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary told the SPA that the cabinet was briefed on recent talks and consultations with leaders from various countries, which covered bilateral relations, regional developments, and international affairs, with particular focus on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and Syria.

The cabinet discussed regional and global developments, reaffirmed the Saudi support for the Syrian people and their aspirations for security and stability, and condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on Syrian territory and their violations of international law.

The cabinet reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to seeing the Palestinians establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital and urged global participation in a high-level international conference in New York City next June, chaired jointly by Saudi Arabia and France, and aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue peacefully, based on the two-state solution.

The cabinet during the meeting said that hosting the FIFA World Cup 2034™ in Saudi Arabia is a significant milestone for the country.

Earlier Saudi Arabia had condemned the Israeli government’s approval of a plan to double the population of the occupied and annexed Golan Heights.

Israel’s government “unanimously approved” the $11 million “plan for the Golan… in light of the war and the new front in Syria and the desire to double the population,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said.

“The Kingdom renews its call to the international community to condemn these Israeli violations, stressing the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
