Saudi Arabia’s Vision for Balanced Energy Transition

BRASALIA, Brazil: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, emphasized the need to balance economic growth, energy security, and climate change mitigation during key global energy forums held in Brazil. Representing the Kingdom at the Energy Transitions Working Group and Clean Energy Ministerial meetings, the minister highlighted Saudi Arabia’s leadership in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies, reinforcing its commitment to the circular carbon economy.

Prince Abdulaziz outlined Saudi Arabia’s ambitions, including the expansion of renewable energy capacity to 44 gigawatts by 2024 and the establishment of a hydrogen production hub in Ras Al Khair. Additionally, he discussed a large-scale carbon capture project with a capacity of 9 million tons annually by 2027. The discussions focused on advancing sustainable energy policies and equitable energy transitions, in line with the G20’s environmental sustainability goals, aiming to foster international collaboration in clean energy technologies.
