RIYADH: In a week-long crackdown on residency, work, and border security violations, Saudi authorities have arrested a total of 17,376 persons, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday. The comprehensive operation targeted various offenses, resulting in arrests related to breaches of residency laws, illegal border crossings, and labor-related issues.
According to official figures, 10,689 persons were apprehended for residency law violations, 3,894 for illegal attempts to cross the border, and an additional 2,793 for labor-related infractions. Among the 722 persons caught attempting to enter the Kingdom illegally, 34 percent were Yemeni, 63 percent Ethiopian, and 3 percent belonged to other nationalities.
The report also indicated that 74 persons were intercepted while trying to cross into neighboring countries, and 17 were detained for their involvement in transporting and harboring violators. Saudi authorities have transferred 46,583 offenders to their respective diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, with 2,337 persons being transferred to finalize their travel reservations, and 8,292 persons deported.
Saudi Authorities Warn of Strong Action
The Saudi Ministry of Interior issued a stern warning, stating that anyone found facilitating illegal entry, including providing transportation and shelter, could face imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years, a fine of up to SR1 million ($260,000), and the confiscation of vehicles and property.
Authorities encourage the reporting of suspected violations through toll-free numbers, such as 911 in the Makkah and Riyadh regions and 999 or 996 in other regions of the Kingdom. The comprehensive operation underscores the Saudi government’s commitment to enforcing residency and border security regulations, ensuring the nation’s safety and adherence to legal protocols.
