Saudi Cabinet Commends Clean Energy ‘Manar’ Initiative with Japan: SPA

RIYADH: The Saudi cabinet has commended the progress achieved by the Saudi-Japanese Manar initiative focused on cooperation in the field of clean energy, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

The Cabinet noted that the initiative could serve as a model, for nations worldwide, in their pursuit of developing strategies and plans to achieve carbon neutrality, SPA reported. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud chaired the session.

The Cabinet discussed the recent work of joint committees formed by Saudi Arabia and several other states, including the signing of memoranda of understanding aimed at boosting cooperation in various fields to achieve mutual interests, enhance ties and explore broader horizons.

Addressing local affairs, the Cabinet emphasized the commencement of the fourth year of the eighth session of the Shura Council.

Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed the extension of the Citizen Account Program, along with the provision of additional support to its beneficiaries until the end of 2024.

The Cabinet acclaimed the forming of the Board of Trustees of the Green Initiative Foundation. The foundation is to be chaired by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman and consists of ministers of energy, foreign affairs, environment, water and agriculture, and climate envoy.

Cabinet approves several memoranda of understandings

Several memoranda of understandings were approved for cooperation in energy, food, housing sector, nuclear safety, economic field, fighting crime, visual, audio and print media, securities and future contracts, money laundering and transport services with countries such as Albania, Bahrain, China, Greece, Jordan, Korea, Luxembourg, Türkiye and India.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet authorized the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, or a deputy, to sign a draft memorandum of understanding with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on establishing a trust fund for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at WIPO.

The Cabinet also authorized the president of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority to sign the Makkah Al Mukarramah Convention of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation.
