Saudi Cabinet Reiterates Rejection of Forced Displacement of Palestinians, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday categorically denounced the forced displacement of the Palestinian people from Gaza Strip and called for an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of the Gaza siege. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Tuesday chaired meeting of the Saudi Cabinet meeting.

The Saudi Cabinet demanded the advancement of the peace process in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, which aims to establish an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

The Cabinet was briefed on a message received by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman from the Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The message focused on further strengthening ties between the two nations and their peoples.

Moreover, the Cabinet reviewed talks between Saudi Arabia and several countries concerning the escalating situation in Gaza, along with phone calls received by the Crown Prince from the presidents of Turkey, Iran, and France, as well as the meeting between the Crown Prince and the US Secretary of State.

Saudi Cabinet Reviews Foreign Policy, Diplomatic Relations

Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari, in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, highlighted that the Cabinet also deliberated on the Kingdom’s foreign policy, including strengthening relations with various countries. 

The Cabinet further examined the outcomes of the eighth Saudi-Russian Joint Committee meetings, focused on enhancing cooperation in vital areas to achieve mutual goals. The Cabinet emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting maritime safety and global trade within the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and ensuring the freedom of global navigation.

Saudi Arabia’s selection as the host for the 19th edition of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in 2024 was a topic of discussion. This decision reflects the Kingdom’s global leadership in this field and its efforts to create infrastructure supporting sustainable development goals and serving communities and the business sector.

Moreover, the Cabinet stressed that Saudi Arabia’s membership in the Global CCS Institute aligns with its efforts to achieve ambitious climate goals and reach net zero carbon emissions by 2060.

Saudi Arabia Cabinet Applauds Abha International Airport Master Plan

On the domestic front, the Cabinet commended the launch of the master plan for the new Abha International Airport by the Crown Prince. The initiative underscores the leadership’s commitment to regional development, increased airport capacity, and improved flight frequency, which contributes to greater mobility, tourism programs, and a higher quality of life.

The Cabinet also discussed recent economic developments in the Kingdom, specifically the September report indicating the lowest inflation level since February 2022. This reflects the strength of the Saudi economy and the effectiveness of economic measures taken to address global price increases.

In addition to these matters, the Cabinet issued several decisions, which include authorizing discussions on a memorandum of understanding with South Korea regarding the establishment of a joint Strategic Partnership Council, approval of a draft protocol amending the Saudi-Jordanian Coordination Council, authorization for the establishment of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Grenada at a non-resident ambassador level, and discussions with India and Korea on draft memoranda of understanding related to agriculture, food security, and cooperation in various fields.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the National Center for Inspection and Oversight and endorsed the regulation for the General Authority for Defense Development.
