Saudi Cabinet Reviews Situation in Gaza, Developments in Lebanon

RIYADH: The Cabinet of Saudi Arabia has discussed the ongoing political and humanitarian endeavors of Saudi Arabia to address the current situation in Gaza Strip, as well as the developments in Lebanon, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, chaired the Cabinet session on Tuesday.

He briefed the Cabinet about the phone call he received from the French president and his meeting with the foreign minister of Iran, addressing the latest regional developments and efforts exerted to tackle them.

The Cabinet discussed the ongoing political and humanitarian endeavors of Saudi Arabia to address the current situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the developments in Lebanon, including the air bridge launched to support the people of Lebanon in the face of the critical situation they are facing.

Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossary after the session told the Saudi Press Agency that the Cabinet reviewed the Kingdom’s overall participation in bilateral and multilateral meetings, with an aim of boosting its ties with countries across the world in various sectors, facilitating coordination to address issues and challenges of global significance, and achieving common interests.

The Cabinet renewed the Kingdom’s emphasis, at the UN Conference on Victims of Terrorism, on the significance of global efforts to curb extremist ideologies and rhetoric, eradicate terrorism, provide support and care for all victims, and empower them through education and rehabilitation.

The minister added that the Cabinet reiterated the key points of Saudi Arabia’s opening statement at the 89th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, which reaffirmed the commitment to women’s rights, to lifting their status in society, and to continuing reforms that empower women and encourage their participation in development.

The Cabinet also praised the successful conclusion of the Global Logistics Forum held in Riyadh under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and expressed optimism that its outcomes will contribute to boosting cooperation, developing logistics services and supply chains, and supporting economic growth and sustainable development.

The Cabinet also said that the inclusion of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Green List, alongside the Ibex Reserve, is consistent with the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts in environment conservation. The move helps to contribute to realizing the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to declare 30% of terrestrial and marine regions protected areas by 2030.

The Cabinet approved an agreement to establish the Saudi-Kazakh Coordination Council, and authorizing the minister of energy to sign it.

It authorized the minister of industry and mineral resources, or a deputy, to discuss and sign with the Pakistani Ministry of Industries and Production a draft memorandum of understanding in the industrial sector.

It also authorized the minister of investment, or a deputy, to discuss and sign with the Venezuelan side a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in promoting direct investment.

It approved the accession of Saudi Arabia, through the National Cybersecurity Authority, to the International Counter Ransomware Initiative.

It authorized the minister of communications and information technology and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Digital Government Authority (DGA), or a deputy, to discuss and sign with the Ministry for Digitising Government of New Zealand a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of digital government.

It further authorized the president of the Human Rights Commission, or a deputy, to discuss and sign with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the technical field.
