RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: The Saudi Cabinet has welcomed the high-level talks between the United States and Russia to discuss the Ukraine war, adding the discussions reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to global peace and security.

The talks held at Diriyah Palace in Riyadh, are seen as a potential turning point in efforts to end the prolonged conflict, though expectations of a breakthrough remain low.

The US delegation was led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff while the Russian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin’s top foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Adviser Musaad bin Mohammad Al-Aiban also attended the talks as hosts.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chairing the Cabinet session in Riyadh, briefed the Cabinet on his recent talks with President Emmanuel Macron of France, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary said that the Cabinet reviewed the government’s recent activities, particularly those focused on strengthening bilateral relations with brotherly and friendly nations.

It also discussed the outcomes of Saudi Arabia’s participation in regional and international meetings, reflecting the country’s interest in collective efforts and expanding cooperation scope to achieve the desired aspirations and objectives.
