Saudi Cup: Panthalassa Wins World’s Richest Race

RIYADH: Frankie Dettori mount Country Grammer was beaten in the Saudi Cup as Panthalassa won Saudi Cup on Saturday. It was heartbreak for Bob Baffert and his runner Country Grammer, who was also narrowly denied in the world’s richest race in 2021. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has crowned Panthalassa as the winner of the Saudi Cup.

Panthalassa’s pace put the entire field under strong pressure from the opening, and at one point during the race, it seemed it could be a Japanese one-two-three-four. Frankie Dettori was narrowly beaten once again in the Saudi Cup.

Trainer Yoshito Yahagi also won on Saturday and said that he had no words to say after the victory. He said that he was happy over the win. He termed his victory as unbelievable.  Yoshito Yahagi continued: “I am very happy. This victory is higher than any other I have had – certainly, it is the greatest feeling as the prize is the best, too”.

He thanked to his staff and horse after the victory. He added that it was not easy to win this race. He remarked that Japanese are trying to enhance and develop horse racing at global level. He further said that they did a lot in this regard.

Frankie Dettori said that Country Grammer repeated his recklessness of last year in the Dubai World Cup. He added that Country Grammer ran a super race. He said that it was a super run. He added, “It has been a good experience. I am always smiling,”.

Jim Crowley won the 3rd race of Saturday’s action on Mostahdaf, lauded arrangement of Saudi Cup and said that Saudi brought a lot of improvement in the tournament. He told Arab media that this his third trip to the Kingdom and wished to visit again and again.
