Saudi Customs Twart Three Attempts to Smuggle 151,000 Captagon Pills

RIYADH: Saudi authorities have announced the detention of several accused and the seizure of large quantities of illegal drugs in operations conducted across the Kingdom.

The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority on Sunday thwarted three attempts to smuggle 151,139 Captagon pills found hidden in cars that arrived in Kingdom through the Haditha Port.

The authority said that 43,000 Captagon tablets were found hidden in one of the cars, 45,349 tablets inside the air compressor tank of another vehicle, and 62,790 tablets in the radiator of a third car, Arab News reported.

Control to be tightened over Saudi imports, exports

The authority said it would further tighten control over the imports and exports in Saudi Arabia through all its customs outlets and would thwart any attempts to smuggle illegal substances into the kingdom.

Meanwhile, in the Al-Ardah governorate of Jazan region, Border Guard land patrols thwarted an attempt to smuggle twenty kg of qat.

In another operation, Jazan police apprehended a Yemeni resident and 3 nationals for attempting to sell amphetamine.

Security patrols also thwarted an attempt to smuggle 17,400 narcotic tablets in the Fifa governorate of Jazan.

Preliminary legal procedures against all the accused have been completed and the cases referred to public prosecutors.
