Saudi FM Renews Call for Immediate Truce in Gaza Military Operations: SPA

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan has chaired the Arab foreign ministers preparatory meeting for the upcoming extraordinary session of the Arab Summit to hold discussion on Israeli aggression on Gaza, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

According to the SPA, at the start of the meeting, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan delivered a speech and affirming that the summit hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Saturday is a response to the current critical situation in Gaza. Prince Faisal bin Farhan called on the world including the UNSC, to shoulder its duties and responsibilities, take deterrent quick action to put cessation to this tragedy, work towards issuing a resolution aimed at an urgent end of military operations, giving protections for civilian population, releasing prisoners and hostages, and halting the forced displacement of the people of Palestine in compliance with international laws, norms, and shared humanitarian principles, the SPA reported.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan called for lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip, permitting the delivery of urgent humanitarian help and medical supplies without any restriction and in a sustainable way. According to the SPA, this, he indicated, is aimed at easing the humanitarian disaster that claimed the lives of innocent people, more than half of whom are women and children. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan noted that such a situation warns of serious consequences for stability and security in the region and the world.

“Within the framework of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) awareness of its international responsibility and in line with the principles of humanitarian solidarity, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has initiated a public donation drive through the ‘Sahm’ platform to provide help and relief to Palestinians in Gaza Strip. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will spare no effort to ease the humanitarian misery of our Palestinian brothers and provide them with a dignified life,” Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan maintained.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized that the goal of achieving a fair, comprehensive, and long-lasting peace “should not be absent from our minds,” in accordance with world legitimacy decisions, the SPA reported.

According to the SPA, moreover, the Foreign Minister reiterated the call for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital city, reaffirming the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) strategic commitment to peace.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the Riyadh’s keenness, since the outbreak of the crisis, to consult and coordinate with its brothers and partners in the world to find a solution. He hoped that the Arab Summit would contribute to stimulating decisive action by the world to prevent the bloodshed and create favorable circumstances for working towards peace.

According to the SPA, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) delegation attending the session included the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Multilateral Affairs, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi; the Kingdom’s Permanent Envoy to the Arab League, Abdulaziz Al-Matar; and the DG of Foreign Minister’s Office, Abdulrahman Al-Dawood.
