RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a phone call from his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Thursday and discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.

A statement issued by the Saudi foreign ministry said during the call, both sides reviewed relations between the two nations.

The statement further added that the two leaders discussed regional developments and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.

This is the second phone conversation between the two foreign ministers in a month.

It may be recalled that the Saudi Foreign Minister attended the BRICS summit held in Russia’s Kazan city from October 22-24 last year.

In a joint statement issued after the summit, the BRICS group said it was “deeply concerned about ongoing conflicts and instability in the Middle East and North African region.”

The bloc of developing nations invited Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates to become members, in a move aimed at accelerating its push to reshuffle a world order it sees as outdated.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also visited Saudi Arabia in September 2024, where he met with Crown Prince, and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

“Discussions touched on recent regional and international developments, efforts aimed at bolstering security and stability were highlighted, and several matters of mutual interest were addressed,” the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) added.
