RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah has discussed regional developments during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

The ministers discussed bilateral ties and regional developments, said a statement on the Saudi foreign ministry account on platform “X”.

It may be recalled that the Saudi Foreign Minister attended the BRICS summit held in Russia’s Kazan city from October 22-24 last year.

In a joint statement issued after the summit, the BRICS group said it was “deeply concerned about ongoing conflicts and instability in the Middle East and North African region.”

The bloc of developing nations invited Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates to become members, in a move aimed at accelerating its push to reshuffle a world order it sees as outdated.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also visited Saudi Arabia in September 2024, where he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. “Discussions touched on recent regional and international developments, efforts aimed at bolstering security and stability were highlighted, and several matters of mutual interest were addressed,” SPA added.
