SBP to Launch Commemorative Coin to Celebrate Golden Jubilee of Constitution

ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that it will launch an Rs50 commemorative coin to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The coin will be available at the exchange counters of all field offices of SBP’s Banking Services Corporation from April 14.

In a statement, the State Bank of Pakistan said that the Constitution of Pakistan, which was passed by the National Assembly (NA) on April 10, 1973, intended to guide the law, political culture, and system of Pakistan.

The 1973 Constitution sets out the state’s outline and serves to protect and enshrine the fundamental rights of the population, guaranteeing security to all citizens of Pakistan.

“To celebrate this important occasion, the government has authorised the central bank to issue a Commemorative Coin of Rs50,” the statement said.

The commemorative coin is in a round shape, milled with dimensions of 30.0 mm and a weight of 13.5 grams. It has Cupro-Nickel metal contents with 75% Copper and 25% Nickel.

Features of commemorative coin

The obverse side of the commemorative coin features a five-pointed star facing Northwest in a rising position and the waxing crescent moon, along with the periphery on the top of the crescent star, inscribed in the wording “Islami Jamhuria Pakistan” in Urdu script.

Below the moon crescent and on the top of two sprigs of wheat with arms curved upward, there is 2023, the year of issuance of the coin.

The face value of the coin in the numeral ’50’ and ‘Rupia’ in Urdu script is written on the left and right sides of the crescent star.

On the reverse side of the coin, the picture of a book titled “The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan” in English script is printed.

The commemorative coin will be a tribute to the historic importance of the Constitution and its contribution to the country’s democratic process, the SBP statement added.

The launch of the commemorative coin comes when Pakistan’s economy is facing financial woes and a delay in a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that would release much-awaited funding crucial to avoid the default risk.
