ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan threw out Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab’s appeal against the reinstatement of constable Aslam — who was terminated on the allegations of engaging in indecent activities off-duty, with a woman.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa said that the woman involved in the case claimed that Constable Aslam was her husband. Additional Advocate General Punjab also appeared before the court.

Justice Athar Minallah, also part pf the bench, questioned whether the police can conduct searches of private residences without a warrant. He also questioned whether the Supreme Court should endorse such illegal actions [raids] by the police.

The Chief Justice also sought an explanation from police officers who appeared before the court and inquired about their expenses and travel arrangements.

The three-member bench led by the Chief Justice gave verdict in favour of Constable Muhammad Aslam, as the Supreme Court upheld the ruling of the Lahore High Court, which had reinstated him.
