BERLIN, Germany: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his understanding of U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to postpone his planned state visit to Germany, given the looming hurricane threatening the United States.
Speaking to German broadcaster RTL, Scholz emphasized the importance of the meeting, acknowledging the thorough preparations made on both sides. However, he supported Biden’s prioritization of domestic issues, stating, “If such storms were raging in my country, then I would also make this decision.”
Despite the delay, Scholz reassured that the meeting would be rescheduled, highlighting the significance of the discussions that were planned. The state visit had been expected to focus on critical global issues, likely including the Ukraine conflict and the Middle East, emphasizing the close cooperation between the U.S. and Germany.
