School Put on Lockdown after Six Injured in Dog Attack in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM: Six people were injured and a primary school was reportedly put on lockdown after a dog attack in Birmingham, police said.

An elderly man was taken to hospital with bite wounds, not believed to be life-threatening, after two dogs on the loose attacked people in Willow Gardens, in the Winson Green area of Birmingham, a little after 2.30 pm on Tuesday.

Five other people were also taken to the hospital with bite injuries, also not believed to be life-threatening.

The attack took place on a road near Barford primary school, which was reportedly placed in a lockdown for an hour until the dogs were taken away.

West Midlands police said it arrested a 28-year-old man suspect for allegedly possessing a dog that was dangerously out of control. Both dogs were seized by police and escorted to secure kennels, it added.

Police said in a statement: “We were called to Willow Gardens, Winson Green, shortly after 2.30pm today [18 April], following reports that two dogs were on the loose and attacking people.

The BBC reported that parents and guardians of students at Barford primary school were sent a text message informing them of “potentially very dangerous dogs circling the school”. It added the pupils were kept inside the school for an hour until the dogs were brought under control.
