LAHORE: On Friday, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi of Punjab declared that schools in the province will be closed on Saturday, while the government has decided to lift smog-related restrictions initially planned for the upcoming weekend.

Leading the Cabinet Committee on Anti-Smog, Naqvi highlighted that schools will have a closure on Saturday, but markets and businesses will resume regular operations over the weekend.

Furthermore, he assured that restaurants and various businesses will maintain their usual operations on both Saturday and Sunday.

This announcement follows a considerable improvement in the smog conditions, credited to recent rainfall in Lahore, significantly ameliorating the Air Quality Index.

It’s worth noting that Lahore has descended to the seventh spot on the roster of the most polluted cities.

Moreover, starting from December 18, winter vacations will commence in educational institutions across Punjab, as mentioned by the Chief Minister.

Additionally, Naqvi directed the continuation of road cleaning and water sprinkling initiatives, emphasizing the need for a robust crackdown on vehicles emitting smoke.

He concluded by emphasizing the imperative need for continued stringent actions against factories resorting to tire burning, advocating for relentless, indiscriminate measures.
