SCO Ministers of Justice Issue Joint Statement on Rule of Law and Human Rights

SHANGHAI: The two-day meeting of Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Shanghai concluded on Wednesday. At the end of the meeting, a joint statement was issued, stating that the 10th Meeting of the Ministers of Justice took place in Shanghai, China, from September 5 to September 6.

In the joint statement, the justice ministers from SCO member states emphasized the critical importance of upholding the rule of law, underpinned by the principle of respecting and safeguarding human rights across all aspects of social, political, and economic life.

This commitment to the rule of law was viewed as a key factor in ensuring the stable, sustainable, and successful development of SCO member states, as reported by CGTN.

SCO Ministers of Justice Highlight Legal Cooperation

Furthermore, the ministers highlighted the significance of collaboration in the legal and judicial domains within the SCO framework. They expressed their determination to continue conducting the activities of expert working groups focused on judicial expertise and legal services.

Additionally, during the meeting, China’s Ministry of Justice forged annual bilateral cooperation framework agreements with the Ministries of Justice of the Russian Federation and the Kyrgyz Republic. These agreements outline the specific content and modes of bilateral exchanges and cooperation related to the rule of law, further strengthening legal ties within the SCO.
