ISLAMABAD:  Local administration in Islamabad has imposed Section 144 in the city as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced protest against alleged rigging in the 2024 general elections in the country.

The PTI has announced a protest, commencing from F-9 Park and concluding at the national press club, Islamabad. Security measures in Islamabad have also been heightened, including the enforcement of Section 144.

The police spokesperson said that measures have been taken to maintain law and order in the federal capital. Citizens are advised to carry identification documents and cooperate with law enforcement agencies, particularly in light of potential traffic congestion around F-9 Park.

On the hand, the national assembly of Pakistan will elect the new Prime Minister of the country on Sunday. The contest for the Prime Minister’s (PM) slot is heating up, with former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Omar Ayub Khan from Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) competing for the position.

This Sunday, newly elected lawmakers of the South Asian country will participate in the voting, aiming to win the top executive post in the country.
