KARACHI: The district administration has imposed section 144 in the Karachi division on the eve of New Year.

According to the notification issued by Commissioner Karachi, section 144 will remain in force from today (Saturday) evening to January 1, 2024.

The notification specifies a ban on aerial firing in the metropolis, with strict consequences for the violators.

Meanwhile, the Karachi traffic police have devised a plan to address the issue of drunk driving on New Year’s Eve in the city’s port area. According to DIG traffic Iqbal Dara, dedicated teams have been established to crack down on individuals driving under the influence. To address the rising number of alcohol-related cases leading to fatal road accidents in Karachi, the police have obtained breathalyzers to detect alcohol levels in drunk drivers.

DIG Dara emphasized that stringent actions, including registering cases and seizing vehicles, will be taken against those found driving under the influence. In a related development, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar announced a complete ban on all New Year celebration events on Thursday as a gesture of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians.
