ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces on Saturday killed three terrorists in two separate operations in the north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media affairs wing said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Bara area of Khyber district.
During the operation, security forces effectively engaged the terrorists’ location, killing two terrorists.
The terrorists, referred to as “Khwarij” (a term used by the government for terrorists), were identified as Haqyar Afridi, alias Khyberay, and Gulla Jan.
In another incident, security forces killed one terrorist and injured three others who were attempting to cross from Afghanistan into South Waziristan.
“The movement of a group of Khwarij trying to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was detected by the security forces in South Waziristan District. Our troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate,” the statement said. As a result, one terrorist was killed, while three others were injured, it added.
The statement further said that Pakistan has consistently urged the interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border.
“The interim Afghan government is expected to fulfil its obligations and prevent the use of Afghan soil by Khwarij to carry out acts of terrorism against Pakistan.”
Pakistan’s security forces remain determined and committed to secure the border and eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country, the ISPR concluded.
President, PM laud security forces
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have praised Pakistan’s security forces for their successful operations against Fitna-al-Khwarij.
In separate statements, both leaders lauded the forces’ efforts in eliminating three militants and preventing border infiltration.
President Zardari reaffirmed the country’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, vowing continued operations until the threat is fully eliminated.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif also commended the forces and stressing national unity in the fight against extremism and reaffirming the government’s dedication to eliminating such threats.
Earlier on Friday, security forces killed at least seven terrorists, including high-value targets, in four different operations conducted in north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Balochistan provinces.
On Tuesday last, Pakistan decided to launch a comprehensive military operation against terrorist groups in the country’s southwestern Balochistan province.
The decision was taken at the Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP)—comprising top civil and military leadership—chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting reviewed the law and order situation, particularly in Balochistan, which has witnessed a sharp increase in terror attacks by outlawed terrorist groups.
