NEW YORK: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is nearing its end from the 20 teams at the beginning to coming down to the last four top teams who will be playing in the semi-finals on June 27 in the West Indies.

On Monday, India became the third team to qualify for the semi-finals after defeating Australia by 24 runs in a crucial match. The Men in Blue set a target of 116 runs for Australia and successfully defended it with disciplined bowling.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan scripted history on Tuesday by qualifying for their maiden T20 World Cup semi-final. They secured their spot by defeating Bangladesh by 8 runs (DLS method) in the final Super 8 match of the tournament.

Opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted a total of 116 runs, which was later adjusted to 114 in 19 overs due to rain interruptions. Opener Litton Das’s valiant 54 not out went in vain for Bangladesh as they were bowled out for 105 in 17.5 overs, failing to chase the revised target.

Rashid Khan, leading from the front, and pacer Naveen-ul-Haq starred with the ball for Afghanistan, claiming four wickets each and restricting Bangladesh’s chase despite the weather interruptions that added suspense to the match.

The semi-final line-up for the T20 World Cup 2024 is now confirmed:

Semi-final 1 — June 27, 5:30 AM (PST):

South Africa vs Afghanistan

Venue: Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad

Semi-final 2 — June 27, 7:30 PM (PST):

India vs England

Venue: Providence Stadium, Georgetown, Guyana

This sets the stage for thrilling encounters as South Africa takes on Afghanistan in the first semi-final at Trinidad, while India faces England in the second semi-final at Georgetown, Guyana. Both matches promise to be high-octane clashes as teams vie for a spot in the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 final.
