DAKAR, Senegal: Amid escalating unrest in Senegal following President Macky Sall’s decision to postpone the presidential election scheduled for February 25, the situation took a tragic turn with the death of a 16-year-old boy in clashes in southern Senegal.
The postponement of the election has plunged the country into one of its most severe crises since gaining independence from France.
The deceased teenager, identified as Landing Camara, succumbed to his injuries after clashes erupted in Ziguinchor, a stronghold of jailed opposition leader Ousmane Sonko.
The protests, characterized by clashes between youths and security forces, have spread across the country, resulting in multiple fatalities.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths of two other youths in Dakar and Saint-Louis remain unclear, further exacerbating the tense situation gripping Senegal.
