PESHAWAR: At least seven laborers were killed and four others sustained serious injuries as blast collapsed a coalmine in Doli area of Lower Orakzai here on Wednesday, district police informed. The blast was purportedly caused by gas emission in the coalmine.
Nazir Khan, District Police officer (DPO) said the rescue officials have rescued four miners from the debris of the coalmine. He said rescue operation is underway to rescue other four labourers who are believed to be trapped under the coalmine debris.
Majority of Blast Victims Belong to Shangla
The DPO said that at the time of the incident, only 13 laborers were present at the coalmine. Majority of the deceased persons and injured belongs to Shangla district.
Rescue officials said that the injured persons were immediately shifted to Kalaya Hospital in lower Orakzai. The seriously injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital in Hangu where hospital sources said the condition of the injured persons is critical. – APP
