According to details, a gunman opened fire Friday night near a synagogue in east Jerusalem, wounding 12 people before he was shot and killed, medics and Israeli police said.

The shooting incident in the Jewish neighborhood of Neve Yaakov followed a deadly raid of the Israeli military on Thursday in the occupied West Bank that killed ten Palestinians.

After Friday’s shooting incident, the Magen David Adom emergency service said it treated 11 injured, some in critical condition.

Israeli police claimed the gunman was shot and killed, and a large police force was at the scene.

Palestinians marched in anger on Friday as they buried the last 10 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces a day earlier, even as the likelihood of a vast conflagration appeared to ebb after the deadliest Israeli raid in two decades.

Scuffles between Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces erupted after the funeral for a 22-year-old Palestinian north of Jerusalem and elsewhere in the occupied West Bank. Still, calm prevailed in the contested capital and the blockaded Gaza Strip.

No serious incidents of violence were reported on Friday, and parties to the conflict appeared not to be interested in further escalating the situation.
