PANJGUR, Pakistan: Seven labourers were tragically killed in a terrorist attack in Panjgur, Balochistan, on late Saturday night.
The victims, all hailing from the Multan district of Punjab, were working on an under-construction house when armed terrorists stormed the premises and opened indiscriminate fire. The attack occurred while the labourers were sleeping in the same room of the house they were building. One worker was injured, while another escaped unharmed as he was not present during the attack.
The horrific incident has drawn strong condemnation from Pakistan’s top leadership, including President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister has demanded a report from Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.
Police and law enforcement personnel arrived swiftly on the scene after the attack, and the bodies were shifted to the district hospital in Panjgur. The victims were identified as Sajid, Shafiq, Fayyaz, Iftikhar, Salman, Khalid, and Allah Wasia. The injured worker was also hospitalized.
While the government’s resolve to combat terrorism is clear, incidents like these highlight the severe security challenges faced in regions like Balochistan. The attack underscores the need for a more robust security framework, especially in remote areas. However, deploying additional forces in such regions can be challenging due to logistical limitations and the wide geographical spread of these areas.
