AMSTERDAM: At least 30 people were injured after a train carrying at least 50 passengers derailed in the Netherlands on Tuesday after colliding with construction equipment on the track.
Dutch emergency services and police said that 30 passengers were ‘seriously injured in the train crash.
According to Reuters, they also said that a fire also broke out in at least one of the bogies. Earlier reports suggested that the passenger train collided with a freight train.
The front bearing of the passenger train was ruined and ploughed into a field after the crash, ANP news agency said. It said the second carriage was on its side, and a blaze broke out in the rear carriage.
An announcement from the emergency services said that rescue teams were at the accident scene near Voorschoten, a village between The Hague and Leiden city.
Dutch Railways tweeted that trains between Leiden and parts of The Hague were cancelled after the accident.
