PESHAWAR: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) on Sunday observed Kashmir Day with a series of informative sessions, creative expressions, impassioned speeches, and thought-provoking discussions aimed at shedding light on the current and historical issues surrounding Kashmir.
The event aimed at reflecting challenges faced by the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The commemoration was marked by a solidarity walk in which the Vice Chancellor, faculty members, and students actively participated, stressing the need for unity and support.
The session started with a moment of silence, symbolizing collective remembrance and respect for the struggle of Kashmiris.
The event was packed with inspirational and articulate speeches, essays, and poetry delivered by students who took the stage to share their perspectives on the Kashmir problem. Each of them demonstrated a nuanced understanding of the historical background and the contemporary struggles faced by Kashmiris.
The students eloquently voiced their concerns, stressing the need for international attention and empathy towards Kashmiris.
Also, the Art exhibition and spot contest provided a visual representation of the Kashmir problem. Students exhibited their creativity through painting, offering diverse perspectives on the issue.
A talk was also given by the Director of Area Study Centre Peshawar, Prof. M Naeem Qazi, emphasizing the role of youth in the issue of Kashmir and enlightening the audience with a comprehensive overview of the conflict.
Kashmir’s History
He delved into the religious history, Buddhist civilization, Islamization in Kashmir, the Mughal dynasty, Shalimar in the valley, and the Dogra Raj dynasty.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed (T.I) shed light on the Kashmir problem, emphasizing the significance of awareness among students.
She articulated the need for India to allow Kashmiris the freedom to choose between an independent state and joining Pakistan.
