The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday acquitted five convicted officials of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) and commuted the death sentence of two into life imprisonment in the Intezar Ahmed murder case.

Intezar was killed by the ACLC personnel in Khyaban-e-Ittehad in the Defence Housing Authority on January 13, 2018. The ACLC personnel had resorted to indiscriminate fire on a white Corolla, killing Intezar on the spot.

A special ATC in Karachi had sentenced ACLC officials Bilal Rashid and Danial to death and Tariq Rahim, Tariq Mahmood, Shahid Usman, Azhar Ahsan and Fawad Khan to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs200,000.

The convicts had challenged the sentence in the SHC which pronounced the verdict on their appeals.

The SHC on appeals of the convicts against the sentences acquitted Tariq Rahim, Tariq Mahmood and others while commuted the death sentence of Bilal Rashid and Danial to life imprisonment.

The SHC also removed terrorism provisions in the FIR of the murder case.
