SHC Reserves Verdict on Application Against Film Joyland

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday reserved the verdict on the application against the award-winning film Joyland. 

The court heard the arguments on the plea against the much-debated film.

During the hearing, the complainant argued that Joyland promotes homosexuality which is prohibited in Islam.

The complainant maintained that Article 19A of the Constitution of Pakistan about freedom of expression has some limitations and boundaries. He argued that violation of Islamic traditions could not be tolerated.

The applicant named, Sumaira Muhammadi, maintained that Mufti Taqi Usmani and the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) also gave statements against the film Joyland.

SHC Reserves Verdict on Film Joyland and Islam

The complainant claimed that the film Joyland aims to create sympathy for transgender people.

The applicant argued that Transgender Act had been challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and the case is pending before the Supreme Court.

“Prompting transgenderism is against the Constitution of Pakistan till the constitutional and legal explanation on the rights of the transgender persons,” the applicant opined before the court.

Earlier, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had rejected a petition against the release of the film Joyland as “inadmissible.”
