LAHORE: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has lauded the role of chief election commissioner on the Feb 8 polls in Pakistan. Speaking to the media in Lahore, Shahbaz Sharif said that on election night, on the ground of a mere 10-12 per cent of results, there was a declaration that independent candidates were winning and political parties were losing, which was “inappropriate”.
Shehbaz Sharif said, “On one side there are accusations of rigging but then independent candidates are winning and we are losing. This is contrary.”
The former Prime Minister said, “So please, polls have happened and it was proven that out of political parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is the biggest party. If you count independent candidates, then their number is clearly greater — but in parties PML-N is number one,” he added.
He said, “If PTI backed candidate shows majority, we will sit in the opposition, if they cannot form the government, then other political parties will take a decision through mutual consultation”.
He said, “I still stand by my words that Nawaz will become PM for the fourth time.” On the occasion he questioned, “if people want to join the PML-N out of their own will, what is the issue in that?.”
He said the time has come to heal the nation’s wounds, highlighting that this could only be done when “everyone comes to works together”. He said that they needed to turn pain into happiness, hatred into love, differences into discussions. He further said that they will have to bury the bitterness and sit together to find the solution to all the problems in the country.
