ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan rejected the nomination papers of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid for the constituency of NA-56 Rawalpindi here on Saturday. Earlier, the regional Returning Office reserved the verdict of the veteran politician after the completion of the hearing.
After the hearing Rashid, Rashid remarked that there was no reality about the allegations levelled against his nomination papers, adding that if rejected, he would approach the high court or the Supreme Court.
He further added that he had already declared all his assets to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and there would be no reason to reject his papers.
Meanwhile, the returning office approved the nomination papers of PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi for the constituency. In total, the nomination papers of 35 candidates were approved for NA-56 Rawalpindi.
Nomination Papers Rejected
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has rejected the nomination papers of major stalwarts, including PTI founder Imran Khan, Vice President of the party Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former minister Hamad Azhar, Shehryar Afridi, Ali Muhammad Khan, Azam Swati, Zulfi Bukhari, former Speaker Asad Qaiser and many others.
In the rejection move, PTI is leading the run with 381 rejections, followed by PPP with 41 rejections, while 36 candidates belong to PML-N with the rejection of their nomination papers from the Election Commission.
