Shutdown in Occupied Kashmir Against Authorities’ Anti-People Policies

JAMMU, Occupied Kashmir: A complete shutdown was observed in Katra, Reasi district of Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in protest against the proposed ropeway project.

Katra serves as the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine atop the Trikuta hills. Shopkeepers and stakeholders expressed concerns that the construction of the ropeway might lead to job losses. A protest rally was staged, and a peaceful sit-in outside the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board office ensued.

The Shrine Board assured a second meeting next month to address concerns before commencing the project.

Residents of Magam, Budgam, frustrated by a continuous 17-day water crisis, took to the streets to protest against the Jal Shakti Department. Demonstrators gathered at the Jal Shakti Department, Handwara Division, expressing dissatisfaction with the department’s perceived inefficiency in resolving the prolonged water scarcity. Protests included slogans against the Jal Shakti department, highlighting the area’s 17-day acute water shortage and authorities’ alleged inaction.

These incidents reflect the growing discontent among the local population in different parts of IIOJK, with issues ranging from developmental projects to essential services sparking public outrage.
