SIC Nominates Achakzai for Coveted Presidential Slot

ISLAMABAD: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has announced its support for Pakhtunkhwa Milii Awami Party leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, as the presidential candidate, local media reported.

As per media report, PTI founder has endorsed Achakzai as the nominee for the coveted presidential position. Some reports suggest that Achakzai is set to submit his nomination papers for the office of the president of the South Asian country.

Earlier, PTI victorious candidates, who were banned from using electoral symbol ‘bat’ and contesting under the PTI banner on February 8 polls in Pakistan, have now joined SIC and are set to nominate their candidate, Achakzai following aligning with SIC.

SIC Likely to Nominate Achakzai for Coveted Presidential Slot

On the other hand, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has nominated former President Asif Ali Zardari for the post of president. Candidates have until 12 am today to submit their nomination papers.

After the submission phase, the scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled to hold on March 4, ensuring a thorough examination of each candidate’s eligibility as well as credentials for the office of Pakistan’s President.

On March 5, candidates successfully nominated will be able to retrieve their nomination papers, and the Election Commission of Pakistan will simultaneously release the list of contesters vying for the coveted presidential post.

The presidential election will be held on March 9 at the Parliament House and the four provincial assemblies of Pakistan.
