KARACHI: In light of the upcoming Shab-e-Qadr, the Sindh provincial government has announced that all educational institutions across the province will remain closed on April 18.

The decision was made in accordance with the Steering Committee Meeting of the School Education and Literacy Department, Sindh Government, held on February 22, 2022.

Shab-e-Qadr, the night of blessings

Shab-e-Qadr, also known as the night of power, is observed during the month of Ramadan and is considered a night of forgiveness and spiritual significance for Muslims. Believers across the country will spend the night in prayer and reflection.

Meanwhile, the federal government has announced a five-day holiday for Eid ul Fitr, which will begin on April 21 and end on April 25.

During this time, all government, semi-government, and private organizations, banks, factories, and educational institutions will remain closed.

After much confusion during the moonsighting meeting, Ramadan 2023 began on March 23.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the moonsighting committee, is set to meet on April 20 to sight the crescent moon for Eid ul Fitr. The meeting will be held at the Islamabad religious affairs ministry and presided over by Ruet-e-Halal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The meetings of the zonal committees will also be held at designated locations across the country. Further announcements regarding the Eid holidays are expected to be made following the sighting of the moon.

Sindh schools and colleges will remain closed on April 18 in honour of Shab-e-Qadr, while a five-day holiday has been announced for Eid ul Fitr starting from April 21.
