SINGAPORE: The Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency representative in Singapore’s parliament, Seah Kian Peng, on Wednesday, was elected as speaker of the house.
In his first speech as speaker, Seah urged his parliamentary colleagues to uphold high standards of conduct and carry out their responsibilities with respect and a sense of responsibility.
Tan Chuan-Jin, who resigned on July 17, was replaced as speaker by Seah, whom Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong nominated on July 21. Between 2011 and 2016, Seah was the deputy speaker of the parliament.
