Six Dead in KP as Met Office Predicts More Rian in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: At least six people lost their lives, while 22 others received injuries due to roof collapse incidents as a result of the torrential rains in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Monday that three casualties occurred in Peshawar, two children died in Mardan while a woman lost her life in South Waziristan due to a rain-related incident. The heavy rainfall also caused damage to a number of houses in the province.

More rain in KP, other parts of country

The provincial met office issued an alert regarding more rain in different parts of the province from tonight till Wednesday, along with a warning of potential landslides in hilly areas of the province during the said time.

It further maintained that scattered rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds and isolated heavy falls and hailstorm is likely to occur over Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Malakand, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Bajaur, Charsadda, Mohmand, Khyber, Hangu, Orakzai, Kurram, Karak, Kohat, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan districts.

Rain prediction in Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab also warned of the risk of the flood situation in the rain-fed streams of Dera Ghazi Khan, connected to the Koh-e-Suleman Range, due to recent rains.

A circular has already been sent to officials in DG Khan, Taunsa, and Rajanpur, asking them to make timely arrangements and reporting of any flood-like situation in their respective districts.

According to Met Office Punjab, strong winds, thunder, and lightning, with heavy rainfall, would persist in various parts of Punjab until Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Lahore, Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Multan, Nankana Sahib, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalnagar, and Sahiwal would also experience strong winds with heavy rainfall. Met Office also advised farmers to take precautionary measures during the spill.
