Peshawar: Six Former Chief Ministers Face Defeat in General Election 2024 of KP

PESHAWAR: Apart from several other surprises, the 2024 General Election also bring one major surprise for big fishes, particularly the former chief ministers who faced shocking defeats from their rivals. In the election, six Chief Ministers of Khyber Pakthunkhwa were defeated in their respective constituencies during General Election 2024.

The former chief minister who remained unsuccessful included QWP (Qaumi Watan Party) Chief Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, PTI-P Chairman Pervez Khattak, Mehtab Abbassi, PTI-P Vice Chairman Mahmood Khan, JUI-F leader Akram Durrani and Central Vice President ANP Amir Haider Hoti.

Former Chief Minister Pervez Khattak lost his national assembly seat on NA 34 Nowshera-I, with another defeat on the provincial seat in his home town. Aftab Sherpao has been defeated on NA 23 Charsadda-I, whereas Mehtab Abbasi suffered defeat at Abbottabad

One of the strong contender and former chief minister Amir Haider Hoti lost his seat on NA 22 Mardan while Mahmood Khan and Akram Durrani faced defeat from Swat and Bannu respectively.

After the defeat Haider Hoti also resigned as central vice President of Awami National Party and pledged to perform as a political worker in future. Media reports early predicted a strong position for Hoti due to his services for education sector in the province, however he also remained unsuccessful.

Similarly, former local government representatives and ANP leader Muhammad Zahid Khan said that he and ANP candidates actively took part in election drive. He appreciated his party workers and office-bearers for running a vigorous election campaign in the general elections concluded last Thursday. He further said that despite getting bad results for him,  he believed in continuous political struggle and would keep the struggle on to fight for the rights of the people of his area. He advised the party workers to remain united, strong and keep moving on the path of their elders who served the province with zeal and fervour.
