RAWALPINDI: At least six people were killed as two vehicles collided and plunged into a ditch near Kallar Kahar Salt Range on Monday, said the Motorway Police.

The highway patrol spokesperson stated that the victims died on the spot following the unfortunate accident, attributing the incident to brake failure based on initial findings.

It was revealed by the police that a gas bowser breached the road divider, colliding with an oncoming vehicle and causing both to veer into the ditch. Subsequently, a fire broke out, engulfing both vehicles. The vehicle was en route from Rawalpindi to Faisalabad via Motorway M2.

The deceased have been taken to Kallar Kahar Trauma Centre, and immediate response teams, including Motorway Police and rescue teams, swiftly reached the scene upon receiving reports of the accident.

Sources within the police department disclosed that four of the deceased belonged to the same family and were passengers in the vehicle that collided with the gas bowser. The other two victims were the drivers of the respective vehicles involved in the accident. A minor was among the deceased. All bodies were severely burnt due to the ensuing fire.

The recurrence of road accidents in Pakistan remains a prevalent issue, with countless casualties reported frequently.

Recalling a similar incident last year in June, a passenger bus accident on the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near Kallar Kahar resulted in the deaths of 12 people, including women and children, and left 24 others injured.
