KYIV: Russian strikes have killed at least six civilians in Ukraine amidst an intensification of air assaults, officials said on Monday.

On second day of air strikes on the Zaporizhzhia region at least three were killed, said its governor.

According to police and officials a woman was killed and five other people wounded in bombardment of the northern town of Bilopilli.

While artillery bombardment of the eastern town of Chasiv Yar left a 77-year-old woman dead and three people injured.

Officials said one person was killed and five wounded, including three children, when a roof of the building collapsed due to Russian strike in the town of Poltava.

Russia has intensified its attacks in recent weeks, targeting energy infrastructure while responding to Ukraine drone strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Three people lost their lives in an attack on the town of Gulyaipole on Sunday.

Regional governor Ivan Federov said three more killed and eight were wounded in a missile strike on an industrial installation in the Pologivskyi district on Monday.

In a message on social media, he said that 14 buildings were damaged.

Russia controls much of Zaporizhzhia region and on Sunday it said two Ukrainian drones struck Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Ukraine on the other hand claimed that Russian drones had hit the plant in a move to blame the Ukrainian military.

The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency has asked on both sides to express restraint.
